The attacks follow Atishi’s accusation that the BJP has been “deceiving Delhiites from the very first day” at a press conference on Thursday night.
Even though Rekha Gupta, the chief minister of the BJP’s new Delhi administration, was sworn in on Thursday, she has already started a verbal sparring match with her predecessor, Atishi of the AAP.
Ms. Gupta retaliated against the AAP and Congress on Friday morning for criticizing her government after just one day, pointing out that they had already ruled for 13 and 15 years.
“How can they cast doubt on one of our days instead of examining what they did? The new chief minister told reporters, “On the first day after taking office, we had a cabinet meeting and we cleared the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which had been blocked by the AAP.”
“On the first day, we provided the citizens of Delhi with a bonus of Rs 10 lakhs. The AAP has no authority to interrogate us. We shall now be concerned about Delhi, and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Delhi will be granted its rights. “They ought to take care of their own party,” she remarked.
In addition to criticizing the AAP for the election outcome, Ms. Gupta, a first-time Shalimar Bagh MLA and an unexpected choice for the Chief Minister’s chair, cautioned the party to prepare for the Comptroller and Auditor-General of India’s findings about corruption in its government.
Atishi’s accusations of the BJP “deceiving Delhiites from the very first day” prompted the barbs.
The party’s pre-election pledge to provide Delhi women with direct cash transfers was mentioned. She claimed that during the first cabinet meeting, the BJP had promised to make this a reality but had failed to do so.
“In the first cabinet meeting prior to the elections, PM Modi and other BJP leaders pledged to approve a plan that would provide every woman in Delhi with Rs 2,500 per month. However, no decision was reached on this during today’s first cabinet meeting,” she said.
The AAP leader also criticized her successor for failing to fulfill her pledge to women voters, who bloc experts say played a pivotal role in the BJP’s election triumph on February 5.
All three of the major parties in this election focused on women voters; the Congress, the AAP, and the BJP all included specific sections in their manifestos that promised financial aid.
Encouraged by their promises, the BJP declared victory in the election, capturing 48 of the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi. For comparison, the party only won 11 seats in the last two elections.
The AAP only managed 22 seats, compared to 67 and 62 in those polls.
For the third time in a row, the Congress lost the Delhi Assembly election.
The center’s major medical insurance program, Ayushman Bharat, whose implementation in Delhi had been contested by the AAP, was approved during the first meeting of Ms. Gupta’s six-member cabinet on Thursday night after she was sworn in.
Additionally, the 14 CAG findings will be tabled, according to the incoming government.
