India T20 World Cup 2026 Squad Announced: Shubman Gill Dropped, Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh Included — Full Squad and Highlights

The BCCI has officially announced India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be hosted at home, and the selection has already created a buzz across the cricketing world. The biggest talking point from the announcement is the exclusion of Shubman Gill, who has been left out due to a prolonged dip in form. In contrast, Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh have been rewarded for their consistent performances and fearless brand of cricket.

The squad, led by Suryakumar Yadav, features a balanced mix of experienced players and dynamic young talent. Axar Patel has been named the vice-captain, marking a significant step up for the all-rounder who has been in top form over the past year. The selectors, headed by Ajit Agarkar, have aimed for a flexible and aggressive unit capable of adapting to Indian conditions.

India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Squad – Full List

Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Axar Patel (vice-captain), Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, Harshit Rana, and Ravindra Jadeja.

In a surprising move, Shubman Gill, who was serving as the team’s vice-captain, has been dropped. Agarkar confirmed during the press conference that the decision was purely performance-based.

The inclusion of Ishan Kishan strengthens India’s top order and provides a left-handed option in the lineup. Kishan, who has been in exceptional touch in recent domestic and IPL outings, replaces Jitesh Sharma as the second wicketkeeper behind Sanju Samson.
Rinku Singh, who impressed in the Asia Cup and in several T20I finishes, has been brought back as a specialist finisher — a role India has long sought to fill.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel add balance to the middle order with their all-round abilities, while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh will spearhead the pace attack. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy form the spin duo expected to thrive on Indian pitches.

Cricket analysts have praised the selectors’ bold decisions. The inclusion of multiple all-rounders and dynamic finishers suggests a clear shift towards aggressive, fearless cricket — a formula that has defined successful T20 teams worldwide.

As India prepares to host the T20 World Cup 2026, this squad represents a fresh, attacking mindset led by Suryakumar Yadav. With home advantage, depth in every department, and renewed energy, the Indian cricket team looks determined to reclaim T20 glory.
